Spawn Cycles

Spawn Cycles is a family owned and operated company based in Squamish, BC, Canada in the heart of the famous Sea to Sky corridor between the mountain biking meccas of Vancouver’s North Shore and Whistler.

In 2011, we began searching for a high quality, lightweight bike for our son who was 2 years old at the time and ready for his first pedal bike. What we found was disappointing - nothing seemed to have changed in kids' bikes in decades. They were still the poor quality, heavy monstrosities that existed in the 1980s when the founder, Max, was first learning to ride and then progressing into freestyle BMX. Max’s father was a mechanic, machinist and welder and had fabricated parts for Max and his friends when they couldn’t find what they needed.

Armed with the knowledge that better bikes were needed and possible, we launched Spawn Cycles.

Initially operating Spawn Cycles out of the family garage, we worked away on designs and prototypes before releasing Spawn’s first bikes in 2012, available through Spawn’s e-commerce website in Canada.

Driven at the time solely by what our son and daughter needed, Spawn’s initial models included a 12” run bike, and 14” and 16” pedal bikes. As our kids grew in size, so did their ability and interest in different aspects of mountain biking, quickly including cross country, dirt jumping and downhill. As our kids' abilities have grown, so to have our capabilities as a brand. We have consistently focused on improving and expanding our product offering.

Over five years into this journey, Spawn Cycles now has around a dozen models ranging from run bikes to full suspension bikes. We have also launched a separate component line, Brood Bike Co., as we had been unable to source suitable products from the sprawling catalogs of components that everyone else is using to spec their bikes. We have traveled the world as a sponsor of youth focussed mountain biking events and field a team and ambassadors consisting of several of the top young riders in mountain biking globally.
